Erstklassig, so ist und bleibt das deutsche Davis-Cup-Team. Andreas Beck und Christopher Kas sorgten im Relegationsspiel gegen Südafrika mit ihrem Sieg im Doppel für ein 3:0 – ein kaum einholbarer Vorsprung.
In Stuttgart gewannen Lokalmatador Beck und Spezialist Kas 6:4, 3:6, 6:3, 6:4 gegen Wesley Moodie und Rik de Voest. Die letzten Einzel am Sonntag sind damit bedeutungslos.
